00-468Council File # c o — �-1 �8 ' Green Sheet # 10 0 5�� RESOLUTION Presented Referred 7 1 WF�REAS, the City of Saint Paul City Council has heard the report from City Library staff regarding policies 2 related to limiting Internet access to pornography for minors at the Saint Paul Public Library on March 22, 2000; 3 and 4 WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council recognizes that patrons of the library system need to feel comfortable and 5 safe in letting their children have access to the library and the Internet without being sub}ected to pornography; and 6 WIIEREAS, it is inefficient to have patrons police other patrons and also to haue staff d'uect time away from other 7 important library services to make sure that pornographic images are not displayed; now therefcre be it 8 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council directs the City Council Reseazch Department to facilitate a group 9 of interested individuals including libtary staff, city information services, members of private industry information 10 services and other interested individuals to review and make recommendations to the City Council on Internet 11 pornography access issues; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council requests that this group report back to the City Council on July 12, 13 2000 with recommendations.
