i WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul will honor native son Charles Schultr this summer through Peanuts on Pa[ade; and

a WHEREAS, through this project, a series of over 50 Snoopy statues will be placed throughout the city for a period of four
a months leading up to the SOth Mniversary of the Peanuts comic strip; and

s WHEREAS, the five foot Snoopy statues will be sponsored by local businesses and decorated by area artists; and

a WHEREAS, after four months the sculptures will be auctioned off (this fall) with proceeds used to: fund a permanent
s installation honoring Schulz, help fund an endowed Chair of Illustration at Saint Paul's College of Visual Arts, and award
io scholorships for emerging young illustrators; and

iz WHEREAS, in 1999 the City of Chicago gained intemational attention for a similar project, displaying hundreds of decorated
�s fiberglass cows on the streets of the windy city, tripling the number of visitors that summer and generating over $200 million
�a to the local economy; and
�s
�s WHEREAS, Peanuts on Parade will build on that success, taking it a step further to memorialize and honor Charles Schulz
n and celebrate the joy he brought to people across the globe; and

�s WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.01 of the City Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there
