Neitz was an original chartez member of the United Auto Work�s Union, Local 874 at the 2 Ford Motor Company Twin Cities Assembly, dating to June 1941; and, 3 WI�REAS, he selflessly undertook the task of promoting the benefits of union membership to his fellow 4 autoworkers at a time when such activities required great courage and persistence; and, 5 WI-�REAS, the establishment of United Auto Workers Loca1879 has greatly improved working conditions for 6 workers at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant, and throughout the City of Saint Paul; and, 7 WHEREAS, John A. Nietz, the last surviving charter member of Loca1879, is visiting Saint Paul from Chicago to 8 participate in a tristory program about Local 879, as it prepaze� to celebrate its sixtieth anniversary next yeaz; now, 9 THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council recognizes the important contribution John 10 Neitz had made for a11 working people in the City of Saint Paul and ea�tends its warmest welcome and deepest thanks 11 on behalf of all her citizens.
