RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section
3. K (Professional-Adxninistrative Supervisors Group�, by inserting the
title of Water Treatment Supervisor in Grade 20; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further
amended in Section 32 by inserting, in proper alphabetical order, the
attached class specification for Water Treatment Supervisor.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs supervisory and expert professional
work planning and coordinating laboratory testing, water treatment and
research at the Water Treatment Plant; and performs related duties as
required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general guidance and direction of
of a division supervisor.
Supervision Exercised: Fxercises within a unit general guidance and
direction of lower level chemists and related laboratory personnel.
• TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMID
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Establishes and directs the water treatment program.
Monitors quality of treated water and directs changes in quality control
procedures.
Supervises the laboratory staff regarding laboratory procedures and
working hours.
Directs the plant operators in the proper amour.ts and schedules for
chemical treatment.
Prepares specifications for and proposals to acquire laboratory equipment
and materials; instructs the staff in their use and in the interpretation
of results.
Directs and participates in research on methods and materials applicable to
more efficient and effective chemical treatment of �vater.
Assists other divisions of the department with expert advice on chemical
questions.
KNOWLIDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of technical aspects of chemical laboratory analysis.
Thorough diagnostic skill in determining g nature and source of contaminations.
Thorough skill in the use of water testing equipment in a laboratory.
Considerable ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Considerable ability to evaluate capabilities of laboratory personnel.
Considerable ability to make expeditious decisions for corrective action.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
College graduation in natural science and two years' experience as a Water
Chemist III or three years' experience as a Chemist II or equivalent.
(No substitution for education.)

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE FOR THIS ACTION
This Resolution establishes the title of Water Treatment Supervisor in Grade 20 of
Section 3. K (Professional-Administrative Supervisors Group) and the class specification
for this title in Section 32 of the Civil Service Rules.
The bi-weekly salary range for Grade 20 is shown below (1981 rates):
