FIELD SUPERVISOR
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs responsible work coordinating the
work of public works operations crews; and performs related duties as
required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general guidance and direction of
a division head.
Supervision Exercised: Exercises within a unit .general technical and
administrative supervision through subordinate supervisors over laboring
and clerical workers.
TYPICA�. DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by aIl positions ia
' this class.
Assigns and supervises all work involved in the maintenance, cleaning and
repair of all streets and alleys, including patching of street surfaces;
seal coating or surfaces seal restoration, asphalt overlays, coacrete
�epairs, sidewalk and curbing repairs and roadside maintenance.
Assigns and supervises all work involved in City Force construction operations
including street, sewer and other miscellaneous Public Works projects assigned.
Assigns and supervises all work involved in the operation and control of the
City asphalt mix-plant including all facets of asphalt mix production and
the maintenance.of the plant itself and all related equipment. '
Plans specific and long range work programs for Street Maintenance operatioas.
Reeps records regarding the Street Maintenance field operations and makes
reports.
Makes recommendations for methods, equipment, material and manpower necessarp
to perform the work in the Street Maintenance field operations.
Reviews working conditions and practices for adherence to federal, state
and local safety regulations, and coordinates safety programs.
Supervises and directs the work involved in the maintenance and repair of
all river banks along the Mississippi River to include periodic inspections
of all revetments and sewer outlets; investigations and reports concerning
alleged reports of pollution.
Coordinates personnel assignments for Street Maintenance field operations.
Assists in budget control for Street Maintenance field operations.
Assigns, supervises and coordinates Street Maintenance snow emergency and
winter street maintenance operations.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the tools, machines and equipment used in maintaining
and repairing streets.
Considerable knowledge of procedures for the proper and safe repair, cleaning
and maintenance of streets.
Considerable knowledge of City street, alley, bridge and sewer systems.
Considerable ability to analyze the capabilities of the unit and to establish
priorities.
Considerable ability to communicate instructions and information in a clear,
concise manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS .
Three years�experience as a Public Works Foreman III or s3.x years'experience
as a Public Works Foreman II.
