1 VJAEREAS, the Skyway Library has served the citizens and workers of downtown Saint Paul for 16 years; and
2 WHEREAS, the Mayor has declazed his intention to close the Skyway Library due to rising lease rates in downtown
Saint Paul; and
4 WHEREAS, the City owns the properiy in Town Square Pazk, which previously was home to the Cafesjian's
5 Carousel; and
6 WT-IEREAS, the library kiosk, which served as the Skyway Library far downtown citizens prior to its location in
7 Norwest Center, would fit well in a setting such as Town Square Park; and
8 WHEREAS, the citizens of downtown have voiced their strong opposition to losing a treasured resource such as
9 the downtown Skyway Library; and
10 VJI IEREAS the original library kiosk could continue to operate to serve the citizens of downtown Saint Pau1 without
11 incurring the addiuonal liability of increasing rent costs; now therefore be it
12 RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Pau1 undertake efforts to continue to operate the library kiosk in Town Square
13 Park after the Norwest Center location has closed operation; and be it finally
14 RESOLVED, that in the event that the Town Square Park location proves not to be a feasible opfion, the Saint Paul
15 Public Library staff will present to the City Council a report on the options that were previously explored for the
16 relocafion of the Skyway Library.
