WHEREAS, the Minnesota State Legislature in its 1981
Session made substantial cuts in the budget of the Department
of Natural Resources; and
WHEREAS, as a result of said budget cuts, the Department
was ordered to close its Metro Region Headquarters in the City
of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, the Metro Region Headquarters has been in the
forefront of development of innovative fish ma.nagement programs
for the general good of sport fishing everywhere; and
WHEREAS, all of the aforesaid Metro Region Headquarters
fish and game programs and 80% of the enforcement budget are
supported by license fees and not tax money from the general
fund; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Sportfishing Congress has announced
its opposition to the scheduled closing of the Metro Region
Headquarters of the Department of Natural Resources in Saint
Paul; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council wishes to express
its support of the Minnesota Sportfishing Congress and join
with the MSC in urging the Minnesota State Legislature to take
whatever steps are necessary to ma.intain the aforesaid Metro
Region Headquarters; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby urges
the Minnesota State Legislature to rescind its prior action in
cutting the budget of the Department of Natural Resources,
resulting in the closing of the Metro Region Headquarters in
the City of Saint Paul.
