Griffin has announced his retirement after 42 years of service with the St. Paul Police Department; and WHEREAS, during that period of time Deputy Police Chief Griffin has rendered out- standing service to the Police Department and to the City of St. Paul ; and WHEREAS, Deputy Police Chief Griffin has shown perseverance and courage in over- coming barriers which for many years hindered his advancement in the Department; and ldHEREAS, in the process of overcoming these barriers he became the highest ranking Black law enforcement officer in the Police Department stimulating a surge of community pride for his distinguished achievement in this area; and WHEREAS, Deputy Police Chief Griffin is a highly respected officer of the Police Department who has been recognized for his constant adherence to the highest standards of his profession; and WHEREAS, Deputy Police Chief ariffin is a fourth term member of the St. Paul Board of Education, a member of numer.ous charitable civic, labor, and political organizations, an author of a book on the Nistory of 6lacks in the Police and Fire Departments; and WHEREAS, Deputy Police Chief Griffin, a life long resident of the City of St. Paul , is a role model of remarkable stature for youth and young adults of all races; so, therefore, be i t RESOLVED, that this Council , on its own behalf and on behalf of the people of the City of St. Paul herein expresses its profound appreciation and its gratitude to Deputy Police Chief Griffin for his years of service and leadership to the people of St. Paul ; and be it FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Council extends to Deputy Police Chief Griffin, his wife, Edna, and his family its congratulations and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
