The Honor Guard is an integral part of the tradition and ceremony of the police department and is of intrinsic value to all officers and citizens. By allowing this generous donation, the Saint Paul Police Honor Guard will have an unprecedented opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. during National Police Week and train with the venerated 3 U.S. Army Infantry "Old Guard". The Old Guard is truly the finest and most proficient military honor guard in the world. Such training will not be possible without support from the Fraternal Order of Police, an organization which contributed well over $10,000 in 1999 to City of Saint Paul activities/organizations, police and community based alike. I wholeheartedly recommend the City Council consider the continuation of this progressive relationship with the Fraternal Order of Police through approval of Council Resolution #00234.
