I am writing today to pass along my endorsement of Council Resolution #00234
authorizing the acceptance of a$3000 donation from the Minnesota Fraternal
Order of Police Lodge #1 to provide training for the Saint Paul Police Honor
Guard. The Honor Guard is an integral part of the tradition and ceremony of the
police department and is of intrinsic value to all officers and citizens.
By allowing this generous donation, the Saint Paul Police Honor Guard will have
an unprecedented opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. during National
Police Week and train with the venerated 3 U.S. Army Infantry "Old Guard". The
Old Guard is truly the finest and most proficient military honor guard in the world.
Such training will not be possible without support from the Fraternal Order of
Police, an organization which contributed well over $10,000 in 1999 to City of
Saint Paul activities/organizations, police and community based alike. I
wholeheartedly recommend the City Council consider the continuation of this
progressive relationship with the Fraternal Order of Police through approval of
Council Resolution #00234.
Please do not hesitate to call on me if I can be of any assistance!
