00-227Council File # �p — �.a 7 Green Sheet # tpp �3 � CITY A � Presented Referred To Committee Date 1 WHEREAS, the CapitolRiver Council, citing its concerns about both the potential of additional advertising signs 2 and the need to update the code relative to business signs in the downtown, has requested City assistance in the 3 development of a Special Dishict Sign Plan for the downtown area; and 4 WHEREAS, increasing development activities in the downtown haue led to significantly more requests for variances 5 related to business signs in the B-4 and B-5 zoning districts, many of which do not generate any community 6 opposition and are approved; and 7 WFIEREAS, amending the Code should serve to implement the provisions of the Saint Paul on the Mississippi 8 DevelopmentFramework and reduce the time and eapense for those proposing to establish businesses in downtown 9 Saint Paul; 10 NOW, TIIEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council requests that the Department of 11 P12iuiing and Economic Development work with the CapitolRiver Council to prepare appropriate amendments to 12 the Legislative Code related to signage in downtown; and 13 BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that those recommended amendments be reviewed by the Saint Paul Planning 14 Commission and forwarded to the City Council by September 1, 2000 for its considerafion.
