William Donovan Valuation and Assessment Engineer Date : May 18, 1g81 Subject: Petition of Robert Hurd, et al for the vacation of a portion of Old Hudson Road �that lies adjacent to Block �+, Kelting's Addition. Public Hearing - June 23, i98a. The petitioners, Robert Hurd and others, request that the proposed vacation be granted in order to establish an is�proved arrangement for mainten�ance and beautification of said property by private c�rnership. The area. �to �e vacated consists of 1,16�+ square feet and is zoned R-3. The Department of Public Works has reviewed the proposed vacation and reports i� has no objec�faon to it. The Depa.rtment of Planning and Economic Development ha.s reviewed this vacatinn and finds no objection to the vacation as proposed. There were no other ob jections or xecomanenc3a.tions from a�y other public or private agencies involved. In view of the foregoing, I recommend that the vacation be approved, subject to the foll�uring terms and conditions: l. We make this request for the following reasons: 1). The property is unused and unmaintained and has been thus since it was acquired by the City. 2). It is weed grown and littered and under it's present ownership, abutting owners cannot clean up, plant or maintain the property. 3). Under the present ownership, access to Old Hudson Road across the property is prohibited, placing a burden on the abutting property. 4). The Street Department has indicated no planned use for the property, nor any foreseeable need for it's continued possession. For these reasons we feel that property, redundant to the City, should be returned to the private owners abutting for improved maintenance and use.
