WHEREAS, the District 12 Community Council has rescinded its approval
of the University of Minnesota Busways proposal , and the residents of both
North and South St. Anthony Park oppose the project; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota State Legisiature last session voted to not
expend state funds on the project; and
WHEREAS, the plan has been substantially changed since the City
Councii gave the project preliminary approval in 1981 ; and
WHEREAS, the new pian for the busway could entail an unknown amount of
city funds for landscaping, sound barriers, and road maintenance; and
WHEREAS, the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of
Transportation may now go ahead with the project; now, therefore, be it
RESO�VED, that the City Counci ) refers the U of M Busway Project Plan
to the City Development and Transportation Committee for further discussion
and clarification of the projects' impact on the neighborhood, its
conformance or non-conformance with the Transportation Section of the
city's Comprehensive Plan, and the project proposers' need and expectation
of city funds.
