l WI3EREAS, U.S. West Communications would Iike to donate cellulaz phones, air time, and 55,854 for
2 a pilot project to place cellular phones in 35 police squad cars; and

4 WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Department wishes to accept this donation and use the money
5 to install the cellular phones in the squad cars; and

7 WAEREAS, this receipt and use of the donated money is not included in the 2000 budget; and

9 WHEREAS, the Mayor pursuant to Section 10.07 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that
10 there are available for appropriation fuuds of $5,854 in excess of those estimated in the 2000 budget; and

12 WHEREAS, The Mayor recommends that the following addition be made to the 2000 budget:

phones in 35 police squads for a pilot project to enhance community accessihility to public safety officers
in the handling of quality of life and other cammunity policing issues.
