' 't 1 �� :.. �tie' 1 1 t: C�t ir Presented Referred To 1 2 3 4 �►'M��►�d - O a�. ao, acoo RESOLUTION CITY OF S�iINT PqiqL.�M f / � //'ff , � Council File # oo - 11�t9 Green Sheet # \b G l33 RESOLUTION REC/ARDING THE LOCATION OF THE SAINT�POLICE DEPARTMENT IN THE PROPOSED NEW RAMSEY COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER Committee Date l 5 WHEREAS, the new Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center, which is to be located on the East Side of Saint 6 Paul, will, among other things, replace the existing Jail Annex which is now located in the same building as the 7 Saint Paul Police Department; and 8 WHEREAS, the existing Jail Annex is used to hold newly arrested suspects prior to arraignment and transportation 9 to the Adult Detention Center on Kellogg Boulevard; and 10 WHEREAS, the co-location ofthe Jail Annex and the Police Departrnent has made possible significant efficiencies I 1 in the operations ofthe Sainf Paul Police Department, resulting specifically from the ready access to suspects which 12 police detectives now have who aze investigating crimes alleged to be committed by these suspects; and 13 WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council recognizes that the continued co-location of the Saint Paul Police 14 Department with the jail would be advantageous to the City in that it would continue the above-described 15 efFiciencies and would also eliminate the need for round-the-clock desk officers at the new Law Enforcement 16 Center, which would further result in the saving of public money which could be allocated to the hiring of additional 17 police officers for essential street duty; and 18 WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council desires to ensure that these operating e�ciencies occur; and 19 WHEREAS, Ramsey County has retained architects to draw up plans for the new Center and it is vital for the City 20 to haue input into such plans at this stage of the planning to ensure that such efficiencies will be possible at the new 21 Center and that the needs of the Saint Paul Police Department will be met; now, �, 1or� 22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council support e location ofthe Saint Paul Police Department 23 within or adjacent to the new Law Enforcement Center; and 24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council requests that the County collaborate with the City in the 25 development of architectural plans which reflect the inclusion of the Saint Paul Police Department within or 26 adjacent to the new Law Enforcement Center; and, o � '►�►`�"'r At 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council directs City staff to report to the Council�p February �- 1 � Q� �iNAL 00 -��'1g � c � .� • y � �..�a.��_ 2001�the steps wluch staff recommend os"F r the imp�emen ion of the co-location of the Police and the new Law Enforcement Center�; �' _ " _� '� '�- r � i�. 1�' .if '.� - � •��- •• • _ � . = � • • � r � � • � . • • • • I n .
