WHEREAS on March 10, 1984, the USS Minneapolis-Saint
Paul (SSN708j was accepted as a unit of the operating forces
of the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, this commissioning, and the naming of this
submarine for the cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis , bring
honor to our city and its citizens ; and
WHEREAS, during the last century, two ships named Saint
Paul and two named Minneapolis and the skilled Navy men who
served on them have compiled a worthy history of duty to our
Country in peace and in war; and
WHEREAS, the crew members of the USS Minneapolis-Saint
Paul represent a distinguished tradition of service in the
common defense of our Nation, and particularly that service
rendered by the Subma.rine Veterans of World War II as well
as all other veterans of service to this Country, now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, tha.t the Council of the City of Saint Paul, on
behalf of its members and on behalf of the cit�zens of this city,
does hereby honor and commend the crew of the USS Minneapolis-
Saint Paul, the Submarine Veterans of World War II, and all
other veterans of service to this Nation; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, tha.t the Council does hereby set aside
and designate May 10 , 1984 as a day of dedication to pay
tribute to said crew members and veterans of service to the
United States of America and its citizens.
