WHEREAS, St. Paul Technical College has served the citizens of Saint Paul since 1919, by providing high quality
trade and technical programs; and,
WHEREAS, the graduates of St. Paul Technical College have served the employment needs and contributed to the
economic growth of Saint Paui; and'
WI�REAS, St. Paul Technical College is seeking approval from the Minnesota State Colleges and Uruversities Board
of Trustees to become a comprehensive community and technical college to better serve Saint Paul cifizens, businesses
and labor by:
--Serving the growingfchanging needs of often place-bound Saint Paul citizens
--Enhancing the perception of the college to serve the currently underserved residents of Saint Paul particularly
recent high school graduates
--Providing addifional educational options and transfer of credits to other colleges for the citizens of the St. Paul
--Increasing opporhxnities for students to transfer from 2-yeaz to 4-year educational institutions
--Responding to the critical needs of business and industry for transferable skills
--Providing ease of local access for the rapidly growing, diverse immi�rant population of Saint Paul to a full
range of technical as well as general education opportunities.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council strongly requests the approval by the Minnesota
State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees of St. Paul Technical College's proposal for community and technical
college status.
