My undergraduate degree was in Political Science � (University of Minnesota, 1968). I then served for four years in the U.S. Navy on board a destroyer as a division officer and department head. �Iy responsibilities in that capacity included management of approximately eighty-five erilisted men and officers and a substantial operating budget. In addition, I was overall shipboard administrator during major shipyard overhaul. Following the Naval service, I att�nded law school at the Uziversity of Minnesota obtaining my degree in June of 1975. Summer employment during both undergraduate and law school was in road construction and residential home building. The experience gained there has been very valUable in understanding and evaluating the practical �roblems involved in providing services and in construction and repair streets and buildings. -1- , ��_ ��-/G7 � ,, ., . , , Since graduating from law school, I have been in private civil practice. I am a member of Thompson & Klaverkamp, a seventeen person firm with a general commercial practice located in downtown Minneapolis. My practice includes a substantial amount of real estate related work for both lenders and developers. As a result, I have a good background in financing alternatives and land use problems. I think that this professioanl background in conjunction with my community involvement provide an excellent basis for participa,tion on the Planning �` Com m ission. Why do you want to serve on the Planning Commission? I want to serve on the Planning Commission because I believe that �ogress is made by individuals taking an active role in an organization, offering their ideas and evaluating the ideas of others. As a resident of St. Paul, who intends to remain a resident for the indefinite future and as a person raising children here, I have a substantial stake in the future of the City. I believe that stake can best be enhanced and that the use of limited resources can be maximized through effective planning.
