SUBJECT: Request variance of St. Paul Legislative Code, Section 34 .11, pertaining to basic facilities, to allow continued use of Apt. �2 without a sink and variance of entry doors with 1/4" wire glass secured by metal, because it is not practical. PROCEEDINGS: Tina Isaac explained she is assisting Ms. Chisholm and that it is her understanding a list of violations was issued. Ms. Chisholm has completed all of them except the two they are requesting the variance on. She also stated there is a handrail missing and explained Ms. Chisholra has had one stolen and also has had some trees fall in the area complicating this issue. She would like some extra time to remedy this problem. BOARD ACTION: William Tilton moved to grant a 60� day extension of time to install the handrail on the north side steps. Rosann Bostrom seconded the motion. MOTION CARRIED. THE VOTE: Ayes 4 Nays 0 Abstentions 0 FURTHER PROCEEDINGS: Ms. Isaac said they are reguesting a variance on the kitchen sink in apartment No. 2. She explained this is an -�"�� odd shaped room and there is insufficient room .to install s sink. - � She also pointed out the tenant is a single individual. Alice felt she has a problem if they are doing the dishes in the bathroom. Ms. Chisholm stated her tenant carrys.�_: the water into the kitchen for dishwashing and further stated her tenant cooks very little. Alice suggested it might make sense to grant the variance on condition occupancy of the apartment is limited to the present tenart� or as long as Ms. Chisholm owns it. BOARD ACTION: Ron Glassman moved to grant the variance on code, Section 34.11, to allow for continued use of apartment �2 with the present facilities, on condition it is for as long as Ms. Chisholm owns the building or the present tenant lives in it. Bill Tilton seconded the motion. MOTION CARRIED. PROCEEDINGS: Ms. Skon addressed the board stating they have purchased the building with three other couples. The violations were issued when the Certificate of Occupancy came up for renewal. They feel they can do all the work with the exception of the sprinkler system ---�- in the heating area and they are asking a variance on this item be- cause of financial difficulty. Alice Bijjani suggested they could put in hard wire smoke detectors � in the furnace area and in the hallway as an alternative at much less expense. BOARD ACTION: Harold Knutson moved the variance be granted on condition hard wire smoke detectors with an audible detector be - instal.led i.n the boiler room and hallway on the first Ievel and all work be done by 6-1-84. Rosann Bostrom seconded. MOTION CARRIED.
