Rules.
RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended by striking from Section
32 the class specifications for the titles of Nutrition Assistant I aad Nutritioa
Assistant II and by substituting, in lieu thereof, the attached specifications for
the titles of Nutritioa Assistant I and Nutrition Assistant II.

General Statement of Duties: Performs technical work in assisting in
carrying out the nutrition program of the Division of Public Health;
and performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general. supervision of a professioaal

Performs health and nutritional screening indices according to standard
procedures including height and weight measurements, head circumference,
blood pressure, hemoglobin, hematocrit, erythrocyte, protoporpherin,
serum cholesterol, cardiovascular risk factor questionnaire, dietary
evaluation and socio-economic evaluation.
Assesses an iadividual's health and nutritional status based on data from
the health and nutrition screening.
Develops and implements individualized patient care plans for those persons
determined to be at high medical or nutritional risk based on data from
the health and nutrition screening.
Monitors and reevaluates client's medical and nutritional status on an on-
going basis.
Issues vouchers for appropriate supplemental foods to nutrition program
participants.
Provides nutrition information via group and one-to-one counseling to clients
in a clinic setting.
Provides nutrition information to community groups.
Makes refarrals to appropriate agencies in the community.
Follows up on special client and/or program problems encountered in the
clinic or community.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs technical work, as a lead person,
providing nutrition screening, education and staff supervision at a
major clinic; and performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of a unit head.
Supervision Exercised: Exercises close technical superuision over nutrition
as'sistants assigned to the clinic. :
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties periormed by aIl positions in
this class.
Schedules, assigns, organizes and reviews the work of Nutrition Assistant I's
and Health Interpreters assigned to major clinic sites,
Communicates the problems and needs of the staff of a major clinic to
the program administrator; recommends solut�ons<
Checks and distributes computer forms; performs liaison with computer staff,
Maintains inventory of supplies and prepares requisitions as necessary.
Participates in the orientation and training of Nutrition Assistant I'se �
Meets with community groups to provide nutritional information and
� to explain nutrition programs.
,� Monitors hematology results re:.eived and notifies nutrition assistants of
patient abnormalities and fallows up to insure that client receives
appropriate referrals ar.d/or e�ucation.
Performs health and nutritional screening indices such as rei�ht anc: weight
measurements, head circumference,blood pressure, hemoglobin, hematocrit,
erythrocyte protoporphyrin, serum cholesterol, cardiovascular risk factor
questionnarie, dietary evaluation and socioeconomic evaluation ac�ording
to standard procedures.
Assesses an individual's health and nutritional status based on data from
the health and nutrition screeningo
Develops and implements individualized patient care plans for those persons
determined to be at high medical or nutritional risk based on data from
the health and nutrition screening.
Issues vouchers for appropriate supplemental foods to nutrition program
participants.
Makes referrals to appropriate agencies in the commun�tye

What Will be Achieved by i'aking Action on the Attached Materials? (Purpose/Rationale):_
The purpose of this resolution is to change the class specificatioa for Nutrition Assistant
I and Nutrition Assistant II so that the minimum qualifications do not require a Minnesota
driver's license. The reasoa for this change is that it has been brought to our atteation
that aot all Nutrition Assistant I and II positions require the driving of a vehicle.
