I BLUE - MAVOR C ncil Resolution Presented y Referred To ��_�,7�E WU'/nC� Committee: Date �ra��=-� Out of Committee By Date WHEREAS, a municipality may pursuant to Minnesota Statutes , §462 . 353 , carry on comprehensive municipal planning activities for guiding the future development and improvement of the municipality; and WHEREAS , the Council of the City of Saint Paul may, pursuant to Minnesota Statutes , §462. 355 , subd. 3, adopt or amend a comprehensive plan or portion thereof after a recommendation by the Planning Commission; and WHEREAS , the Planning Commission has recommended the adoption of an amendment to �he District 17 Plan which is part of the City' s Comprehensive Plan, changing the land use desigr.ation of the Miller Hospital site from "residential" to "self-contained, single purpose, high density" use ; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul does hereby adopt the amendment to the District 17 Plan (a copy of which is attached hereto and marked Exhibit A) , subject to such review by the Metropolitan Council as may be required by law. They requested, and staff concurred, that the land use provisions of the District 17 Plan be changed as they did not accurately reflect, in a general sense, reasonable reuse/redevelopment of the Old Miller Hospital site. In addition, the Plan currently designates the site for residential use, which is inconsistent with the proposed History Center. After discussions with Planning staff, the Downtown Comnunity District Council and the Planning Commission are recommending that any high-intensity, single purpose use, including housing, is appropriate for the site. If the History Center does not proceed, this amendment gives more appropriate guidelines to the site's eventual reuse.
