Re: Transmittal of the District 17 Plan Amendment to the City Council
Dear Council President Tedesco and Members of the City Council :
The review of the Old Miller Hospital Redevelopment proposal prompted a
request by the Downtown Community District Council . They requested, and
staff concurred, that the land use provisions of the District 17 Plan be
changed as they did not accurately reflect, in a general sense, reasonable
reuse/redevelopment of the Old Miller Hospital site. In addition, the Plan
currently designates the site for residential use, which is inconsistent with
the proposed History Center.
After discussions with Planning staff, the Downtown Comnunity District Council
and the Planning Commission are recommending that any high-intensity, single
purpose use, including housing, is appropriate for the site. If the History
Center does not proceed, this amendment gives more appropriate guidelines to
the site's eventual reuse.
I concur with the recommendations of DCDC and the Planning Commission and
recommend the amendment to you for your approval .
Sincerely,
eo e L tmer
