99-79Council File # �� —� `� Green Sheet # � 3S 2 RESOLUTION CITY C}F SAINT �AUL, MINNESOT Presented Referred To Committee Date WFiEREAS, the City of Saint Paul Department of Planning and Economic Development (PED) has a history of being a first-rate planning and urban development organization; and WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council, serving in the capacity ofthe Saint Paul Housing and Redevelopment AuthoriTy (HRA) has traditionally appointed the director of PED as the executive director of the HRA; and WHEREAS, Pam Wheelock, who has served as the director of PED and the executive of the HRA has recently accepted the post of Commissioner of Finance for the State of Minnesota and, therefore, vacancies will be aeated in the vital positions Ms. Wheelock has held; and WHEREAS, the Department of Planning and Economic Development and Housing and Redevelopment Authority has provided excellent guidance and leadership on housing, planning and economic development issues confronting the City and the coordination and collabortation of these agencies has been imaluable; and WHEREAS, the residents and businesses of the City of Saint Paul have an over-riding and abiding interest in the selection of the new director of PED; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby requests that Mayor Norm Coleman pursue a seazch and selection process for the next permanent director of the City's Planning and Economic Development Department which is inclusive of the interests of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority, as well as the business and residents of the City of Saint Paul; and be it FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby requests that the Mayor actively consult and confer with the City Council prior to selecting the next director of the Planning and Economic Development Department.
