Dear Councilman Tedesco:
You have asked that the City Attorney prepare an amendment
to the taxicab ordinance requiring that all taxicabs have seat
belts for all passengers . Enclosed is a draft ordinance amending
Section 376.09 so as to add a new clause No. 5, which reads
as follows :
"Every taxicab shall be equipped with safety belts for
all passengers in both front and rear seats. "
Each year prior to renewal of taxicab licenses all taxicabs
are inspected to determine compliance with the ordinance.
It will be at that time that the vehicles will be checked to
make sure that they are equipped with the safety belts in both
the front and rear seats for all passengers.
If I can be of any further assistance , please let me know.
You very truly,
