Program.

Position Description
The positions in WIC performs tke following duties:
Assigns, trains, supervises, and conducts performance evaluation of assigned nutrition assistants.
Conducts state-mandated chart audits and appointment observations of nutrition staff; maintains
state-mandated records and reports.
Directs the operation oftwo clinic sites through cluric coordinators, answers questions on policies

Performs periodic clinic nutririon services including nutrition screening, assessment, counseling,
refetral and therapeutic diet instruction.
Coordinates WIC grogram services such as community outreac}� breastfeeding promotion,

Responds to requests for information and acts a resource to other health professionals in the area of
WIC program and services.
Prepazes special reports and studies, writes articles for publication, and performs administrative
duties.
The positions in Community Nutrition perform the following duties:
Provides nutrition services at the West Side and Refugee clinics including nutririon screening,
assessment, counseling, referral, and providing therapeutic diet instrucrion.
Plans, implements, and evaluates nutrition educarion programs such as pre-school screening, clinical
nuultion, nutrition/educarion classes, home visits, high rise visits, and one-on-one training.
Teaches classes and makes presemations on nutriuon-related topics through the Eazly Childhood
Family Education program in schools, family centers, neighborhoad groups, and community
organizations.
Develops, designs, and evaluates education materials.
Responds to requests for information and acts as a resource to other health professionals in the azea
of community nutrition.
Participates in health fairs, health coalitions, committees, and community meetings; makes formal
presentations and writes articles for publications.
Collaborates with other health professionals in developing and implementing special programs or
projects such as the department's Health Promotion Tnitiarive for chronic diseases, Food and
Nutririon Commission, Nfinnesota Food and Nutrition Network, S-A-Day Coalition, and Food First.
Writes and administers grants for special studies and projects.

do not compare favorably with tbis class because of supervision exercised and additional duties. Nutritionist II's
supervise not only paraprofessionals, but also lower level professionals such as Nutriaonist I's. The positions studied
do not supecvise pcofessional posifions. Nutritionist II's alsa ttas additional duties such as assistant m the WIC
Program Manager or provides/coordinates all heaith education service needs of an entire unit or various program
managers. The Nutritionist II class is in PEA Grade 10.
Health Educator I- Performs enVy level professional work in the planning, implemeniation, and evaluation of
health education pmg[ams. The typical duties include: promotes utilization of public health seivices; assists with

and activities; collabosates with various groups and agencies to conduct health education activities; participates in
training sessions for public health sernice agencies and schools concerning health prog-ams and public health issues;

educatioml and/or recreational aetivities; conducts educatioaal classes for participants; makes homevisits and
follow-up with participants; acts as a resource forthe community community organizations, and social service
agencies; prepares reports, grant applications, and public information materials, etc. The positions compaze
favorably with this class, particulazly in the area of clinical work. The Social Worker class is in PEA Grade
10.
Quantitative Evaluation System (QES)
The evaluation supports compensating the Nutririonist I class at Grade 10 of the Professional
Employees Non-Supervisory Standard Ranges.
Recommendation
I recommend that the rate of pay for the Nutritionist I class be changed from Crrade 7 to Grade 10
of the Professional Employees Non-Supervisory Standard Ranges.

The positions in WIC performs tke following duties:
Assigns, trains, supervises, and conducts performance evaluation of assigned nutrition assistants.
Conducts state-mandated chart audits and appointment observations of nutrition staff; maintains
state-mandated records and reports.
Directs the operation oftwo clinic sites through cluric coordinators, answers questions on policies

Performs periodic clinic nutririon services including nutrition screening, assessment, counseling,
refetral and therapeutic diet instruction.
Coordinates WIC grogram services such as community outreac}� breastfeeding promotion,

Responds to requests for information and acts a resource to other health professionals in the area of
WIC program and services.
Prepazes special reports and studies, writes articles for publication, and performs administrative
duties.
The positions in Community Nutrition perform the following duties:
Provides nutrition services at the West Side and Refugee clinics including nutririon screening,
assessment, counseling, referral, and providing therapeutic diet instrucrion.
Plans, implements, and evaluates nutrition educarion programs such as pre-school screening, clinical
nuultion, nutrition/educarion classes, home visits, high rise visits, and one-on-one training.
Teaches classes and makes presemations on nutriuon-related topics through the Eazly Childhood
Family Education program in schools, family centers, neighborhoad groups, and community
organizations.
Develops, designs, and evaluates education materials.
Responds to requests for information and acts as a resource to other health professionals in the azea
of community nutrition.
Participates in health fairs, health coalitions, committees, and community meetings; makes formal
presentations and writes articles for publications.
Collaborates with other health professionals in developing and implementing special programs or
projects such as the department's Health Promotion Tnitiarive for chronic diseases, Food and
Nutririon Commission, Nfinnesota Food and Nutrition Network, S-A-Day Coalition, and Food First.
Writes and administers grants for special studies and projects.

supervisor, exercises supeivision over lower level nutritionists, contract pe7sonnel, volunteers, and nutrition
professionals. Tlris class descn�bes the duties of the positions as dces the Nutritionist I class. However, the positions
do not compare favorably with tbis class because of supervision exercised and additional duties. Nutritionist II's
supervise not only paraprofessionals, but also lower level professionals such as Nutriaonist I's. The positions studied
do not supecvise pcofessional posifions. Nutritionist II's alsa ttas additional duties such as assistant m the WIC
Program Manager or provides/coordinates all heaith education service needs of an entire unit or various program
managers. The Nutritionist II class is in PEA Grade 10.
Health Educator I- Performs enVy level professional work in the planning, implemeniation, and evaluation of
health education pmg[ams. The typical duties include: promotes utilization of public health seivices; assists with
assessment af com�aGiGy health needs, implements education pmgrams and evaluates community health progranls
and activities; collabosates with various groups and agencies to conduct health education activities; participates in
training sessions for public health sernice agencies and schools concerning health prog-ams and public health issues;
Lespondsto requestsfor information conceming healthsecvices and health educaflon resources; develops awidevariery
of educational materiais; assists in preparing promotionai materials including news releases, radio and art materials;
assists in organizing meetings and conferences for commuuity gaups or organi�ations. The positions compare

Grade 9.
Social Worker - Performs professional social work. The typical duties include: provides emergency crisis
intervention, conducts intake, assessment, counseling, referral, and follow up with participants; assists in
plauning and orgauizing crime preveation projects and activities for the community; provides counseling,
educatioml and/or recreational aetivities; conducts educatioaal classes for participants; makes homevisits and
follow-up with participants; acts as a resource forthe community community organizations, and social service
agencies; prepares reports, grant applications, and public information materials, etc. The positions compaze
favorably with this class, particulazly in the area of clinical work. The Social Worker class is in PEA Grade
10.
Quantitative Evaluation System (QES)
The evaluation supports compensating the Nutririonist I class at Grade 10 of the Professional
Employees Non-Supervisory Standard Ranges.
