An administrative ordinance increasing the duration of sick benefits payable
to Saint Paul Fire Fighter Daniel J. Schmokel injured off duty on June 1, 1985,
pursuant to Section 12 . 10 of the Saint Paul City Charter.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAINT PAUL DOES ORDAIN: \
Whereas, Section 12 . 10 of the City Charter provic?es for extension of
sick-leave benefits by administrative ordinance when the City Council deems it
appropriate; and
�Thereas, Fire Fighter Daniel J. Schmokel was injured off duty on June 1,
1985, and is incapacitated and unable to resume active employment ; and
Whereas, Fire Fighter Daniel J. Schmokel ' s benefits under Section 12 . 10
of the City Charter are due to expire on February 13, 1986; and
ti9hereas, Fire Fighter Daniel J. Schmokel will not be eligible for d.is-
ability benefits under the Public Employees Retirement Association unless he
is employed by the City until 11�ay 18, 1986; and
Whereas, Fire Fighter Daniel J. Sehmokel is not eligible for any other
earned benefits if he is not employed by the City until May 18, 1986; and
Whereas, it is in the humanitarian interest of the City to provide
assistance to incapacitated employees and to assist em�loyees to gain fair
benef its; and
Therefore be it ordained, that Daniel J. Schmokel ' s benefits under
Section 12 . 10 of the City Charter be extended to August 14, 1986.
This ordinance shall be in effect retroactively as of the date it is
first introduced to the City Council.
