WHEREAS, the Regional Transit Board was established by Minnesota
statute to oversee various modes of transportation within the
Metropolitan Area; and
WHEREAS, the regulation of taxicabs has been a long-standing
issue for municipalities and the industry; and
WHEREAS, there exists conflicting regulations within the various
communities of the Metropolitan Area; and
WHEREAS, taxicabs are an important paratransit alternative within
the Metropolitan Area; and
WHEREAS, the Regional Transit Board appointed the RTB Taxicab
Advisory Committee to identify regulatory issues within the
Metropolitan Area; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul supports metropolitan
licensing of taxicabs and will monitor the legislation proposed by
the RTB Taxicab Advisory Committee to the 1986 State Legislature.
