WHEREAS, the Minnesota Boat Club, founded in 1870, is the oldest athletic
organization in Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Boat Club is located in downtown Saint Paul and its
boathouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places; and
WE�REAS, the Minnesota Boat Club Women's Team competed this past July 15, 1984,
at the United States National Women's Rowing Championships in Oak Ridge, Tennessee;
and
WI�REAS, the Minnesota Boat Club Women's Team finished fifth overall in
the nation and finished one point out of first in the light weight division; and
WHEREAS, there are over 400 rowing organizations in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Boat Club Women's Team competed this past August 25, 1984,
at the World Rowing Championship in Montreal, Quebec, Canada; and
WI�REAS, this was the first world class event participated in by the Minnesota
Boat Club; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Boat Club Women's Team finished fifth overall in the
Women's Light Weight Eight Event;
Now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Saint Paul declares May 6, 1985,
as"Minnesota Boat Club Women's Rowing Day"in Saint Paul.
