WHEREAS, Clergy Appreciation Week is being sponsored by the St. Paul
Chapter of Civitan Clubs (a national organization devoted to aiding the
handicapped) during the week of February 3; and
WHEREAS, the time of this observance of appreciation for our clergy was
selected to coincide with the sinking of the troopship USS Dorchester on
February 3, 1943, when four chaplains willingly gave their lives so that
other servicemen could live; and
WHEREAS, all citizens benefit from the presence of our local community
ministers, priests, and rabbis; and
WHEREAS, many times people forget to give a wo�of thanks to the clergy
who spend their daily lives serving us and our community through their ministry;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the week of February 3 be set aside as a week of special
appreciation honoring the very deserving clergy of all faiths who enrich our
lives with their unselfish work.
