I ITIATING ACTION
T is project is being initiated by a request rom the District 4
N ighborhood Counci 1 and some of the nearb residents.
E I ST I NG COND I T I ONS
P int Dougias and Clarence come together at Burns Avenue in a large, open
i tersection. The only curbing is on Burns A enue and about SO' on the east
si e of Clarence. Point Dougias and Burns ar paved streets. Clarence is
a oiled street.
P POSED IMPROVEMENTS
R irect the traffic patterns at this interse tion to bring Point Douglas
in o Clarence Street at a right angle. This w uld be accomplished by
re aving the intersection north of Burns and onstructing curb and gutter
a placing stop signs.
C ST ANO F i NANC I NG
T estimate cost to construct this project i s49,000 and would be
fi anced with Public Improvement Aid Funds.
TI E SCHEDULE
Th s project could be started in the spring of 1988 and be completed in
th rty (30) days.
AL ERNATES
Re lign Clarence southbound to intersect Poi t Douglas at a right angie
le ving Clarence nmrthbound as is but designa ing it one way from Burns to
ap roximately 250' north. This is favorable t some of the residents but it
do s not eliminate the multileg intersection t Burns and requires more
la . It would be very expensive and solve ve little.

orics. This is an undesirabie type of int ection from a traffic
tandpoint and has higher than average num er of accidents, but they are
t of the severe type (i.e. collision with p rked cars). It is not certain
ust how much effect rechannelization will have on accident reduction.

he Department of Public Worics' recommen ation to build the intersection
proposed would eliminate the multileg in ersection and would allow

d velopment. If this recommendation is not acceptable, the second
r commendation is to do nothing.
