WHEREAS, Como Park is one of the oldes and most beautiful parks in
the Metropolitan Regional Parks System; and
WHEREAS, Como Park is one of the most opular parks in the regional
system with over 1. 5 million visits ea h year; and
WHEREAS, 62 percent of the users of Co o Zoo, conservatory, and general
use areas are from outside Ramsey Coun y; and
WHEftEAS, state funding for the regional park system has not kept up
with capital improvement needs at the 38 regional parks; and
WHEREAS, capital improvement needs at aint Paul regional parks now
total over $72 million; and
WHEREAS, there are improvement needs of approximately $32 million at
Como Park which will take over 18 years to complete at the present
funding; r�,te; and
WHEREAS, such a funding delay will result in increased construction
costs and limit the public' s enjoyment and access to Como Park;
RESOLV��, that the City of Saint Paul support legislation that would
provide $15 million worth of state fu ding for completion of capital
improvements at Como Zoo and Conservatory.
