partner in the Project; and
WHEREAS, a local match of cash and in kind is required from all of the
partners, and
WHEREAS, the City will receive a benefit from the grant exceeding the
amount of the match; and
WHEREAS, the City is required to confirm and commit this match for the
final approvaZ of this grant effective 07/O1/99, so that work can
begin; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council does agree to be a
grant participant and to commit a match of $170,000, at least $100,000
of which is new, non-state match spent on items such as materials,
supplies, seasonal and/or contract labor and one-time expenses for
projects occurring in the Saint Paul portion of the Greening the Metro
Mississippi - Minnesota River Valleys Project area over the 30 month
grant period beginning on 07/O1/99.

along the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers in Minnesota's Twin Cities while building community investment in our urban
natural resource base. The City of Saint Paul, Division of Parks and Recreation, as a partner in the Project, is required to
commit a local cash and in kind match for the final approval of this grant effective 07/01/99. All work will occur in the Saint
Paul portion of the Project area over a 30 month grant funding period beginning 07101/99.
ADVANTAGESIfAPPROVED:
If approved, the City will receive a benefit from the grant which exceeds the amount of the match. This project will aliow
Parks and Recreation to make real, on-the-ground improvements to the natural areas near the Mississippi River. For
Iandowners, there are ecological, financial and social benefits to replanting native vegetation and carrying out other
restoration activities on river valley property. Restoration adds value to land in the valley and is a demonstration of
stewardship that can improve the entire ecosystem along this great river.
