What Will Be Achieved By Taking Action On The Attached
Materials?
This resolution establishes the Purchasing Systems Manager
Classification. Recent reorganization of the Purchasing
Division of the Department of Finance and Management Services
has resulted in the need for this new managerial classification.
NeW programs in quality enhancement, value analysis, and user
services have been added to the Purchasing Division. This new
classification will replace the current managerial
classification entitled Purchasing Agent. The Purchasing Agent
classification will be abolished when the current incumbent
vacates.
t
Cost/Benefit. Budgetory, and Personnel Impacts Anticivated:
There are two positions affected by this action; the single
incumbent, Purchasing Systems Manager and the single incumbent,
Purchasing Agent classifications.
The Purchasing Systems Manager classification has been assigned
to Professional Supervisory Grade 29. The entry level biweekly
salary for this grade is $1672.02. The five year rate is
$2202.16 biweekly and the 15 year maximum rate is $2334.52
biweekly. It is anticipated that the position will be filled at
the E step which is $1995.21 biweekly.
The cost to the City for the remainder of this calendar year is
dependent upon when the position is filled. Assuming the
position is filled provisionally upon approval and publication
of this resolution, there would be approximately six pay periods
left in the fiscal year. If the position is filled at step E,
the cost for the remainder of the year would be $1995.21 X 6 =
$11,971.26. The total yearly cost of this single position
classification would be $51,875.46.
The Purchasing Agent classification is currently assigned to
Professional Supervisory Grade 27. The upgrade of the ivision
Manager assification will result in approximately a $1
week or 3000 yearly increase in tYlebase salary for the
ivision Manager posiOrr. --'his is a%68 verall increase.
--------
garding the personnel impacts of this action, it is
anticipated that the position, currently classified as
Purchasing Agent, will be allocated to the proposed Value
I Analyst III class. Value Analyst III is to be assigned to
iProfessional Grade 22. As a result of this action, the
l incumbent's wages will remain as is until such time as the
compensation assigned the Value Analyst III class surpasses
those wages. •
