87-1073 WH17E - UTY CLERK PINK - FINANCE COUflC1I �i CANARV - OEPARTMENT G I TY OF SA I NT PAU L File NO. d 7��a� BLUE - MAVOR �C' uncil sol io Presented By Referred To Committee: Date Out of Committee By Date WHEREAS, housing is a vital basic need for all people; and WHEREAS, the numbers of homeless and inadequately housed persons in the Twin Cities continues to grow at an alarming rate; and WHEREAS, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity builds affordable homes for people whose income and resources would not ordinarily permit them to own their own homes; and WHEREAS, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity involves the future homeowner and volunteer workers from churches and the community in building and renovating the homes; and WHEREAS, public and private community involvement in addressing the needs of homeless and low-income individuals such as that which Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity provides is the best way to meet the long-term needs of poverty-stricken individuals to solve the homeless problem; and WHEREAS, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity has built three homes in Minneapolis for very low income families and plans on doubling the number of new homes it builds in Minneapolis and Saint Paul in 1988 and greatly increasing that number each subsequent year; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED that the City of Saint Paul declares August 1, 1987 Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity Day; and be it further RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul commends and supports the fine work of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity in addressing the housing and other long-term needs of very low-income people in the Twin Cities.
