WHAT WILL BE ACHIEVED BY TAKING ACTION ON THE ATTACHED MATERIALS?
(continued)
The Classification of Plan Examiner I was restructured with the intent
of establishing it as an entry-level training position. The
classification of Plan Examiner II was also restructured with the intent
of establishing it as the journey-level position. The classification
entitled Plan Examiner III was starred (abolished except to present
incumbents) effective May 14, 1987.
COST/BENEFIT, BUDGETARY AND PERSONNEL IMPACTS ANTICIPATED:
(continued)
The Building Inspector earns an annual salary of $38,188.80. The Senior
Plan Examiner Classification would pay $30,075.50 at the base salary and
$37,423.88 at the 5-year step. Therefore, the salary cost would likely
decrease by utilizing the Senior Plan Examiner title. Overall the
change would be negligible as the Building Inspector classification does
not include benefits and the Senior Plan Examiner title does.
In regard to the salary changes for the titles of Plan Examiner I and
II; there are no incumbents in either classification at this time.
There are also no plans to hire anyone in these classifications during
1987. Therefore, there is no additional cost or benefit to the City
during 1987. As employee turnover occurs, new employees would come into
the division in the title of Plan Examiner I which has decreased by
seven grades. The benefit to the City would be $3,254.00 annually per
position.
At the point where these employees have reached the journey-level, they
could be promoted to the Plan Examiner II title. (Estimated training
time - 2 years) . There would then be additional cost to the City due to
increase in Grade from 34 to 35 for the journey-level title. The added
cost per employee is estimated at $672.00 annually.
