WHEREAS, cooperative working relations between the United States and the
Soviet Union are of utmost importance to the citizens of the world, and all efforts
to enhance and better these relations are most respected and honored by the
Saint Paul City Council; and
WHEREAS, Vladimir Posner is currently on a nationwide tour for promoting
peaceful relations between the United States and the Soviet Union; and
WHEREAS, Vladimir Posner has been a political commentator since 1970 and a
political observer since 1986 in the Soviet Union, and has been involved in projects
and discussions to promote peace such as People-to-People Bridge Telecasts, Peace
Child, and U.S. National News discussion panels; and
WHEREAS, on June 3 and 4 Vladimir Posner will be in the Twin Cities speaking
on peace issues and issues of mutual concern to citizens of the United States and
the Soviet Union; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul acknowledges gratefully the efforts and
achievements of Vladimir Posner in promoting open discussion and constructive
dialogue between citizens of the United States and the Soviet Union; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council does extend to Mr. Posner
our warm and sincere welcome for his visit; and be it
FINALLY RESOLVED, that June 3 and 4 be days for both celebrating the efforts
and achievements of those working toward peace, and also for realizing the
responsibility of all citizens to work toward peaceful relations between the
United States and the Soviet Union.
