McPeak / ":;, Deputy City Attorney J RE : Civil Service Commission Alternates As you may recall , the City Council referred to the Charter Commission an ordinance amending the City Charter by establishing alternates to the Civil Service Commission. That ordinance replaced an earlier one which had been referred to Finance Committee. o At its April 23 , 1987 meeting the City Charter Commission was interested in approving the proposed amendment but wanted to be: sure the process for appointment which I had previously drafted in the form of an amendment to Saint Paul Administrative Code Chapter 101 was in place. I recommended to the ommission that it hold the Charter amendment until the amendment to Saint Paul Administrative Code Section 101 was adopted and approved. Rccordingly, on behalf of the Commission I request that the Council process the enclosed amendment for approval . You will note that unlike other amendments it will not become effective 30 days following passage , approval and publication. Its effective date will be the effective date of the Charter amendment. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns . JAM: jr cc : Members of the Charter Commission `
