Summary of Engineering Recommendations
Report Prepared - February 2, 1987
Publ ic Hearing - May 19, 1987
PROJECT
Improve PLATD BQUt.EVARD from Lafayette Road to Filimore Street by
removing the existing surface and placing a bituminous overlay and doing
ail other work necessary to compiete said improvement (City Project
87-P-1028).
EX I ST I NG CONDI T IONS
The divided roadway consists of two 24' roadways with curb and a 29'
center median. The base is concrete with a bituminous surface. Curbing is
in good condition but the driving surface is showing considerable amount
of cracking. This is an industrial area and therefore has no sidewalks. The
ornamental lighting for this area is adequate.
PROPOSEDIMPROVEMENT
The proposal calis for removing approximateiy 3' of existing bituminous
surfacing and replacing it in kind.
The parking ban would remain, and all work would be done under traffic.
ALTERNATE
Do nothing. This would allow the deterioration to continue and soon would
have to be considered for major reconstruction.
ADVERSE EFFECTS
Construct i on w i 11 be done under traf f i c and w i I 1 cause a f ew m i nor traf f i c
delays.
POSITIVE EFFECTS
The bituminous overlay will improve the riding quality, extend the life of
the pavement, and reduce maintenance costs.
