V � �✓ C ncil Resolution - � ti � � � Present d By �� a ' Referred To �U� � ���-� C�iJ Committee: Date ��� —�� Out of Committee By Date WHEREAS, the St. Paul City Council adopted resolution 86-1734 designating 1987 as the year of our chlldren and encouraged the undertaking of activities that wili make St. Paul a more livable city for our young people; and WHEREAS, city government makes decisions that affect the present and future of our young people usually without information on the impact of such decisions; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is desirable to provide a means by which our young people, particularly high school students, can participate in on-going decisions that shape the present and future of St. Paui ; and WHEREAS, the City Councii encourages high school students in St. Paul to seek appointments to various city committees, task forces, boards and commissions; and WHEREAS, as part of the City's citizen participation program, some 375 citizens serve on 33 cortxnittees, task forces, boards and commissions appointed through the open appointments process. Each recommendation/ application will be accornpanied by a written statement signed by a sponsoring teacher outtining the educational value to be derived by the students and how the volunteer service can be related to the civic and government classes.
