WHEREAS, STARS STRIPES, an American yacht sponsored by the San Diego Yacht
Club and the Sai American Foundation has recaptured yachting's oldest and
most prestigious trophy, the America's Cup; and .
WHEREAS, succes ful yacht racing at this elite level of competition requires
advanced resear h and technology applied to yacht design and construction; and
WHEREAS, the ST RS & STRIPES team relied on 3M Company to assist in developing
technological a vantages, and has credited 3M's Scotchcal Drag Reduction Tape
as making a maj r contribution to the America's Cup victory; and
WHEREAS, the Am rica's Cup victory has brought well-deserved attention to
technical advis r Frank Marentic, the 3M Company, and indirectly to the City
of Saint Paul f r their contributions to success in this major sporting
achievement;
NOW, THEREFORE E IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul
warmly congratu ate 3M for its achievements in researching, developing and
applying Scotch al Drag Reduction Tape as a technological break through
- product attd -for significantly contribu�-ing to the excating America's-Cup -
victory by STA & STRIPES.
