Approved by Navor: Date Approved by Mayor for Submission to Council By BY . . _ , TRAFFIC MAINTENANCE WORKER WHAT WILL BE ACHIEVED BY TAKING ACTION ON THE ATTACHED MATERIALS? (Purpose/Rationale) : This resolution establishes the rate of pay for the newly established title of Traffic Maintenance Worker. COST/BENEFIT BUDGETARY AND PERSONNEL IMPACTS ANTICIPATED: This will be a multiple incumbent classification. This title will replace Traffic Sign Worker, Parking Meter Repair Worker, and Utilityman I, and these titles will be starred (abolished except as to present incumbents) . The duties from these three titles have been incorporated into the new Traffic Maintenance Worker title. The rate of pay will be the same as the current level for Traffic Sign Worker and Parking Meter Repair Worker. The benefits to the City from this resolution will be as follows: 1. It will eliminate the need for two selection examinations. 2. It will allow management greater flexibility in assigning duties. 3. It will establish equitable compensation for positions doing the same work. The annual salary will be approximately $26,250 at the starting rate, and $27,706 at the 6 month rate, using 1988 rates. (As noted above, this is equivalent to the current yearly salaries for Traffic Sign Worker and Parking Meter Repair Worker. Also, for your information, the current yearly salary for Utilityman I is approximately $24,315 at the starting rate and $25,626 at the 6 month rate.) The total number of positions doing this type of work will not increase. It is anticipated that the 11 Utilityman I employees, who are currently doing the same work as either Traffic Sign Workers or Parking Meter Repair Workers, will test for this new title when it is posted. Thus, assuming starting dates of October 1, 1988, and that current employees in the Utilityman I title would be hired, the cost to the City for 1988 will be $520.00 per employee (an additional $1.00 per hour for 13 weeks) , or a total of $5,720.00 for all 11 positions. The additional cost to the City for an entire year, using 1988 rates and asswning the current Utilityman I incumbents would be hired, will be $2,080 per employee, or a total of $22,880 for all 11 positions (an additional $1.00 per hour for 52 weeks for 11 employees) . i=:• . .• . / /7 . . .N°_.
