3 WfTEREAS, the Minnesota Labor Interpretive Center provides opporiunities for the City of Saint Paul to enhance
4 its economic development, tourism venues, and state-of-the-art educational programs; and
5 WHEREAS, the 1998 Minnesota State Legislature appropriated $6 Million for capital improvements to renovate
6 the East Building at 30 E. Wabasha Street, currently occupied by the Science Museum of Minnesota; and
7 WHEREAS, the Minnesota Labor Interpretive Center will house interactive exhibits highlighting Minnesota
8 industries, showcase the past, present, and future of the workplace, and provide state-of-the-art telecommunication
9 facilities and educational resources; and
10 WfTEREAS, the Minnesota Labor InterpreUVe Center is requesting from the I.egislature $1.744 Million a year, each
11 year of the biennium, for a total of $3.488 Million for programs, exhibits and equipment; and
12 WHEREAS, these revenues will leverage private dollars and support for exhibits and educational programs that will
13 result in a sustained public/private partnership.
14 NOW, T`HEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council support the funding request of the
15 Minnesota Labor Znterpretive Center as an important future part of the overall economic development, tourism, and
16 educational efforts for a healthy City of Saint Paul, and strongly encourage the Minnesota I.egislature to appropriate
