State law requires the State Fire Marshal's office to inspect public schools every three years, but permits the State Fire
Marshal to delegate this responsibility to local govemments by contract. Previous contract has expired.
ADVANTAGESIFAPPROVED
By combining State Fire Masshal inspections with our on-going Certificate of Occupancy inspections, school ocials will
not be burdened with duplicate fire inspections.
D{SADVANTAGESIFAPPROVED
No disadvantages if approved, since the city is already inspecting for Certificate of Occupancy. The only era duty is
to submit a copy of our report to the State Fire Marshal.
DISADVANTAGES IF NOTAPPROVED
Redundant inspections will occur. The Deputy State Fire Marshals will be inspecting public schools every three years,
while Saint Paul Fire Marshal Inspectors will also be inspecting them every two years for renewal of the Certificate of
Occupancy.
