We protested the license under the then city statut allowing a church or synagogue to overrule a liquor license f any establishment within 300 feet of its place of worship. T at protest was based upon the nega- tive effect of a bar so clos to our worship facility and our con- cern for the safety of our indergarten through twelfth grade students using our buildin each day. 1 t was our fear that a 3.2 license was only a pre ursor to a full liquor license. Even a cursory review of West S venth Street will indicate the number of bars that already domin te this area of the city. Despite our protest, he Saint Paul City Council amended the law granting churches nd synagogues veto rights over liquor establishments close to the r buildings, extended the downtown zone further to include Co setta's, and then issued that license to Mr. Cossetta. Tuesday, December 1 th, the city council is to consider a new application by Mr. Co setta for a full liquor license. In fairness to the concerns of our chu ch members, our students and their families, and our desire to maintain the sanctity of our building to worship, I urge you to eny this additional liquor license to Cossetta's.
