Salary Plan a d Rates of Compensation
Resolution co cerning Vacation.
RESOLVED, that the Salary Plan and Rates of Compensation Resolution be
amended in Section I, Vacation, so hat the third paragraph of said Section
shall read as follows:
"The head of the department may permit an employee to carry over into the
following year up to e#gl��� on hundred and twent hours, or in the Fire
Service the number of hours wo ked for �Ke three weeks. If for reasons
of business the department hea determines that additional carry over
is necessary for an employee, hen the em lo ee ke�ai�e shall ask the
Personnel Director to allow th t additional time be carried over. Such
additional days must be used thin the first three months of the following
year. Any employee who does t work full time shall be granted vacation on a
pro rata basis. The time of v cation shall be fixed by the head of the
department in which the employ e is employed. If an employee has been granted
more vacation than �e the em 1 ee has earned up to the time of k#s separation
from the City service, the emp oyee shall reimburse the City for such unearned
vacation. If the employee is eparated from the service by reason of resignation,
l�e the employee shall be grant d such vacation pay as �ee ma.y have been earned
and not used up to the time of such separation, provided that ke the employee
has notified the department he d in writing at least fifteen calendar days prior
to the date of his resignatio . If an employee is separated from the service by
reason of discharge, retireme or death, l�e the employee shall be granted such
vacation pay as ke may have b n earned and not used up to the time of such
separation."

1 . Tn-iaefease the amount of reserve va ation time available to each employee resulting in
greater flexib�i:lity in scheduling fo both the employee and the department as well as the
possibility of better risk managemeri in case of an employee emergency.
2. If an employee opted to take an "ext a" forty hours during <the holiday season, the time '
wauld be taken from the next or comi g year annaal leave, and therefore, the eaq�.�oyee could
still have eighty hours remaining fo the next calendar year.
3. Administratively, such a change woul sharply reduce the the number of requests for .:... ..... .. .

Essentially no change - very m�nor econ ic benefit possible by reducing potential risk
mauagement in employee �disability.
