88-254 WHITE - CITV CLER PINK - FINANC-E G I TY OF SA I NT PA U L Council �j�'7/ E•ANARV� DEPARTME r File NO. � � v ' BLUE -MAYOR � Council �Zesolution �g Presented By � Referred o - Committee: Date Out of C mmittee By Date WHEREAS, he Saint Paul City Council supports the protection and preservation of buildi gs and areas having special architectural , historical , and comnunity interest r value; and WHEREAS, he Saint Paul Heritage Preservation Commission has been created to research nd recommend to the City Council buildings and areas to be designate as heritage preservation sites or districts, and has empowered the Heritage reservation Commission to protect the architectural character of designate sites and districts; and WHEREAS, he 1983 Historic Sites Survey of Saint Paul and Ramsey County states that the rea of Dayton's Bluff west of Mendota Street "contains one of the area's gr atest concentrations of nineteenth century buildings, including good examples f the Italianate, East Lake, and Queen Anne styles"; and WHEREAS, he area of Dayton's Bluff west of Mendota Street also contains an important collection of Victorian commercial buildings and nineteenth century vernacula Victorian workers houses; and WHEREAS, the 1986 District 4 Plan Update states that it is the neighborhood's goal "to increase the preservation of historically significant structures and heighten areness of the area's interesting history," and that the Dayton's Bluff/District 4 Community Council "will support all efforts to save historic homes in t e neighborhood; NOW, THERE ORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council requests Heritage Preservati n Commission research of the area of Dayton's Bluff bounded by the Burlington Northern railroad tracks and Mounds. Absent the the fund' g, the study would go through the normal Heritage Preservation Commissi application process.
