WHEREAS, human rights must be of co cern to all free-thinking people;
and
WHEREAS, the United States is a si natory nation to the United Nation's
Universal Declaration of Human Rights; a d
WHEREAS, the people of the City of St. Paul support human rights and
condemn violation of those rights; and
WHEREAS, the indigenous peoples of Canada are sponsoring a 900 mile
relay run to inform the people of the Un ted States of alleged human rights
violations; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the 900 m'le relay run is to organize a public
forum to which the indigenous people of anada may present documentation of
violations of human rights; and
WHEREAS, the purchase of electric power from Canada by the State of
Minnesota is contributing to the constr ction of dams on traditional native
lands which is allegedly causing enviro mental and health concerns for
indigenous peoples of Canada; and
WHEREAS, there are indigenous Ame icans (American Indians) residing in
St. Paul who call upon St. Paul city go ernment to support a public forum to
discuss these human rights concerns; an , now,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that t e City of St. Paul supports the
formation of a public forum which the i digenous people of Canada and
indigenous people of St. Paul may prese t documentation of alleged violations
of human rights; and
