Improve MARKET STREET from Fifth Str et to Sixth Street (City Project
89-P-1063) by removing the existing p v ment and constructing a brick
surface on a new bituminous or concr te ase, constructing tree planters
and planting trees, constructing a dec rat ve globe type lighting system,
constructing sidewalk, and doing all ot er work necessary and incidental
to said improvement.
INITIATING ACTION
This project was initiated at the reque o the Department of Planning
and Economic Development.
EXISTING CONDITIONS
Market Street has a right-of-way width of 0 feet and a pavement width
of 46 feet. The roadway is in fair cond tio and is constructed of
bituminous surfacing on concrete bas . he sidewalk is in fair condition
and will be replaced. The curb on the e t side is granite and the curb on
the East side is integral with the walk. i,Th re are two globe type lights at
the corner of Fifth Street and one bent str w type light in the center of
the block. The block to the South of th s roposal is a brick street that
was constructed in 1984 along the theot r streets around Rice Park.

We are proposing to remove the existi g ituminous surfacing and
concrete base and construct a new ba e nd a brick surface to match the
streets constructed around Rice Park. Th granite curb will be reused.
The majority of the sidewalk will be re la d. Globe lighting, trees and
tree planters will also be installed.
POSITIVE BENEFITS
This will be an extension of the aesthe ic reatment that was given to
Rice Park and should be a considerab e i provement to the appearance of
the area.

ADVERSE EFFECT •
This street will be closed to through t aff for periods of time. Access
to Commercial State Bank and parki g I t will be maintained or diverted
to enter from either Fifth Street or St. Pe er Street.
