WHEREAS, Rondo Avenue, nc rporated, is a neighborhood organization
which annually sponsors the Ron o estival; and
WHEREAS, the Rondo Festiv 1 ' s organized to help celebrate and recog-
nize St. Paul' s Black or Africa erican Community; and
WHEREAS, this community de el ped and thrived with Rondo Avenue as its
primary commercial avenues; and
WHEREAS, historic Rondo Av n was eliminated along with the construc-
tion of Interstate 94 at whic ime the name Concordia was assigned from
Dunlap Avenue East to Rice Stre t; and
WHEREAS, Rondo Avenue, n . , with the support of the community,
desires to have mounted comme o ative historic Rondo Street signs along
with the existing Concordia S r et signs on poles from Dunlap Avenue to
Western Avenues; and
WHEREAS, the presence of t e Rondo signs is not for the purpose of
renaming Concordia, but moreov r for the purpose of affirming the role and
contribution Rondo Avenue mad 'n the settlement and development of the
St.Paul indigenous Black Commun' t ; and now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that Rondo A enue, Inc. , within 30 days of the passage
of the enabling resolution w' 1 collect sufficient signatures of area
residents to demonstrate adequ t support for mounting commemorative Rondo
Street signs and Rondo Avenue, nc. , will raise the necessary funds to
defray expense of the signs; an
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, a upon submission of a satisfactory number
of signatures, the City Cou i may adopt a resolution authorizing the
mounting of commemorative Ro o Street signs prior to the August 5th and
6th, 1989, Rondo Festival.
