The meeting was called to order at 10:32 a.m.
STAFF PRESENi': Corinne Martens, License, Inspections, Environmental Protection (LIEP);
Kristine Schweinler, LIEP
Gerry Strathman stated this hearing is being held to heaz objections to the issuance of licenses to
Golden Supermarket, 315 University Avenue West.
Corinne Martens reported Golden Supermarket is applying for Cigazette/Tobacco, Crrocery (C),
and Malt Off Sale Licenses. The foilowing departments have recommended approval: Fire
Inspection, License, Environmental Health, and Zoning Inspecfion.
(No one appeazed in objection.)
Mr. Strathman read the letter he received from PaNhia Thor, 333 Aurora Avenue, who wrote
about the following concerns: drug dealers, prostitution, gangster activity, and stores selling
products that harm people.
Kevin Wong, owner, appeared and stated he shares the writer's concerns and will not be doing
business with bad people. He wants the store to be a one stop shopping place for the community.
The stare will carry tobacco, food, frozen items, and Mexican foods. In the future, he plans to
carry Indian products. To minimize problems, Mr. Wong will post signs in the cooler area and at
the register indicating no one under 21 can buy certain items.
Neighborhood groups have been notified of this heazing, stated Mr. Strathman, but he has not
received any correspondence from them. He asked has LIEP received anyfliing from a
neighborhood group. Ms. Schweinler responded no.
Gerry Strathman recommended approval of the license application. There is no legal basis to
deny these licenses.
