WHEREAS, Northwest Airlines is ' t ral to the air industry of Minnesota and
to operations of the Minneapolis-Sai t ul International Airport, constituting
an important part of the economy of e win Cities metropolitan area, including
the city of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, a successful takeover rthwest Airlines might entail significant
changes in the company structure and os ible relocation of company headquarters
� away from the Twin Cities metropolit a ea; and
WHEREAS, such a relocation woul re ult in loss of jobs which are now held
by many Twin Cities residents and wo d dversely impact area business due to loss
of a major airline hub; and
WHEREAS, "hostile" or "leveraged ' t keovers are viewed to be generally de-
stabilizing to the economy; now, ther fo e, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council f aint Paul supports efforts legally taken
which will help to prevent a "hostile ' o "leveraged" takeover of Northwest Airlines;
and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City ou cil of Saint Paul is in agreement with
and supports the efforts of Governor ud Perpich to prevent such a takeover and
offers the assistance of the city of ai t Paul in that effort.
