99-1013Council File # �--� p 13 4RiGINAL CITY OF Presented Referred To RESOLUTION NT PAUL, MINNESOTA Green Sheet # �� � Resolution Congratulating tfie Minnesota Thunder for their Achievements and Contributions 1 WHEREAS, soccer, the fastest growing sport in Minnesota, involves 25,000 children in Ramsey County and 2,000 2 children in the Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Division's fall soccer program; and 3 WHEREAS, the Minnesota Thunder professional soccer team and their coach, Manuel "Buzz" Lagos, a longtime 5aint 4 Paul resident, teacher and youth mentor, piay an important leadership role in our community by invoiving children from 5 all backgrounds in youth development programs and soccer camps; now, therefore be it 6 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Counci] recognizes the extraordinary contributions made by the Minnesota Thunder 7 and Coach Lagos; and be it 8 FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council congratulate the Minnesota Thunder on their 27-6 record for the year, 9 claiming the titles of Central Division and Westem Conference champions, and making their fourth appearance in six 10 years in the national finals; and be it 11 FINALLY RESOLVED, that the City Council on behalf of the City of Saint Paul wishes Coach Lagos and the Minnesota 12 Thunder the very best as they compete in the A-League National Soccer Championship, the first ever hosted by the state 13 oFMinnesota, on October 16, 1999, 7:05 p.m, at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
